Mai Mbambande Foundation

At Dzama Village in Traditional Authority (TA) Chitukwa, Lilongwe, stands a special place known as Mai Mbambande Foundation. This elderly home cares for 84 elderly people who are fed, sheltered, and looked after with love and dignity.

The foundation was established on 17th March 2024 by Deborah Mbale, a young woman with a big heart. At only 24 years old and unemployed, she decided that being kind does not require being rich. With small business activities, she has managed to support and care for elderly people who had nowhere else to go.

A Beacon of Hope

Mai Mbambande is more than just a shelter; it is a beacon of hope. Many of the elderly here were once accused of practicing witchcraft or were rejected by their families. At the foundation, they find peace, respect, and a second chance at life.

Currently, the home has become a safe haven for 35 men and 50 women who are under threat. Out of these, 10 men are fully accommodated at the premises, while the others come daily for meals, activities, and companionship. The foundation provides food, emotional support, and a sense of belonging to those who were once forgotten.

Empowering Women

Besides caring for the elderly, Mai Mbambande has also started creating a platform for women to network and share experiences. This helps young women learn from each other, build confidence, and support one another through challenges.

A Message of Kindness

Mai Mbambande Foundation reminds us that helping others does not require wealth. A kind heart is enough to make a difference. What started as one young woman’s dream has now become a family of hope for dozens of elderly people in Lilongwe.

“When you support the elderly, you protect wisdom, history, and dignity. Together, we can keep hope alive.”
